The expensive mistakes are almost never the fence. They are the landscaping you have already paid for, sitting inside the non-climbable zone.
What we look at
The four things worth designing, not retrofitting
Get these right on paper and the barrier follows. Get them wrong and you are paying twice.
- What sits near the fence Retaining walls, garden beds, pump housings, bench seats and feature trees can all land inside the 900mm non-climbable zone.
- Finished ground levels The barrier must be 1.2m from the finished ground outside it. If the ground ends up higher than the plan assumed, a fine fence comes up short.
- The boundary fence line Boundary fences forming part of the barrier need to be at least 1.8m. Better known before you agree a fence with a neighbour than after.
- Where the gate goes It must open away from the pool and self-latch from any position. Which way the ground falls and what sits either side both affect whether that works.

A consultation is a walk of the plans and the site with someone who inspects these for a living. You get a clear list of what will and will not pass, at the point where changing it costs nothing.
Compare that with discovering it at your compliance inspection, once the pool is in, the landscaping is done and the invoices are paid.
