Compliance, made simple
Got a council letter? Selling your home? Let's sort it.
If your council has told you your pool barrier is due, or you're selling and need a compliance certificate, it's easy to feel lost in the rules. An inspection is simpler than it sounds: I check your fence, gate and the space around them against the Victorian standard, then tell you in plain English whether it passes.
It matters for two reasons. A compliant barrier is the one thing standing between a small child and the water. And it isn't optional here: every pool and spa in Victoria has to be inspected and certified every four years, and again whenever you sell.

On the day
What we check, in plain English
Victoria's rules are all about stopping a small child getting to the water. Here's what I go through, and what most pools trip up on.
- Fence height & gaps At least 1.2m high, with no gaps a toddler could squeeze through.
- Self-closing, self-latching gate The most common fail. It has to close and latch on its own, every time.
- The non-climb zone No footholds a child could use to climb within 900mm of the fence.
- Boundary barriers Where a boundary fence forms part of the barrier, it's checked too.
- Gate & latch hardware Latches high enough and in good working order.

Meet your inspector
“I became an inspector to keep other families' kids safe.”
I'm Leanne, a mum of four. After putting a pool in at home, I got licensed as a pool safety inspector to help keep other families' kids safe, and in 2025 I took over Poolside Fence Inspections.
Today I inspect pools right across regional Victoria, from Bacchus Marsh to Echuca, Ballarat and Geelong. I answer every call myself, I explain everything in plain English, and I'll always tell you straight.
