Geelong pools are judged against the same Victorian rules as everywhere else: more than 300mm of water means a barrier at least 1.2m high, a 900mm non-climbable zone outside it, and a self-closing, self-latching gate. What does change is which edition of the standard your barrier is checked against, and that depends on when it was built.

What Geelong owners have to do

Three separate duties, and they happen in this order.

  1. Register with the City of Greater Geelong

Registration sits with you as the owner. If your pool has never been registered with the City of Greater Geelong, that is the step everything else waits on.

  2. Get the barrier certified

A compliant inspection produces your Form 23, issued within 48 hours. This is due every four years.

  3. Lodge within 30 days

Lodge the certificate with the City of Greater Geelong within 30 days of the date it is issued.

The 30 day trap

Lodge it late and the City of Greater Geelong cannot accept it at all. Not a late fee, a whole new inspection.

Registering and lodging with the City of Greater Geelong

Registration, the reminder letter and lodging your Form 23 all go through the City of Greater Geelong.

On the council's register a pool or spa page. Registering is something you do as the owner, and it's separate from the inspection. If your pool isn't on the register yet, do that first, then book the inspection.
